Project Management

  • Decider Protocols
    • How do you have good decision making protocols on a team?
    • The problem here… is that there isn’t anyone to argue with. Just yourself!
    • So, the question arises, how do you manage such a complex project without anyone to work with?
      • When its a short project (4-5 weeks) you just ram through it and you get it done.
      • That… doesn’t work so well on a year long project. Either just doesn’t end up happening, or, it goes on and on and on and on…
    • How to succeed on your capstone…
      • Manage yourself
      • Manage resources (professors, subject matter experts, etc.)
      • Manage contacts
      • Manage Time

    Capstone Timetable

    • Capstone Proposal – Due by 9/30
    • Protection of Human Subjects – Due 10/3
    • Research Report / Paper – Due 12 / 9
      • Must contain:
      • Introduction
      • Lit Review
      • Exemplars
      • Predispositions / Assumptions
      • User Research
      • Insights

      The Key to Doing it:

      • Who: Who’s involved, who’s doing it
      • What: What is it EXACTLY that has to be done. Know what it is!
      • When: When is it due?
      • Gap Analysis:
        • Say: I want to accomplish Something
        • A Gap Analysis is going to be a personal task (not the same for everyone)
        • Ok, we know what the goal is, but what are the things that I need accomplish in order to get this done.
          • To DO a Lit Review:
          • Step 1: Find out what a Lit Review is
          • Step 2: Find out where the Lit is (Chapter 2 in Research Design)
          • Step 3: Look at an example of a lit review
          • Step 4: Find literature
          • Step 5: Decide how you’ll take notes
          • ETC.
