I spent some time the other day researching the “top videos” on YouTube. I was incredibly surprised to find that 11 out of the top 20 MOST VIEWED YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF ALL TIME are actually music videos.

I find this particularly interesting as there are so many copyright infringement suites against people posting videos. YouTube is a pretty proven platform for sharing video. The Avril Lavigne video shown in the list below (Girlfriend) is the #1 of all time, beating out the Evolution of Dance Viral Video by about 2 million votes. The video itself, has been viewed over 114 million times. And that is just on this one particular video, that’s not taking any other website, any other YouTube post (Avril Lavigne Girlfriend brings back about 27,000 search results by the way), or any of the offline (TV, etc) impressions of the video.
